7:30pm Talks given by MMGM Research Associate, Dr. Henning Haack, and MMGM’s favorite street astronomer, Tom Hoffelder.
8:30pm Film: “A Trip to the Moon” (France, 1902) was the screen’s first-ever science fiction story. It was a 14-minute masterpiece, nearly one reel in length (about 825 feet), created by imaginative French director and master magician Georges Méliès (1861-1938). He is considered the father of film special effects. The film will be followed by a MMGM Meteorite Show & Tell.
9:15pm: Bundle up & grab your lawn chair and marshmallow stick. We’ll head outside for a marshmallow roast over a campfire.
9:30pm: The total lunar eclipse, which occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, begins and will reach totality at 12:12 am. We’ll have plenty of warm drinks available at The Gem. Enjoy this Spring evening outdoors under the stars.
For the indoor part of the program, proof of COVID vaccination is required for everyone 12+.
