BAAM at The Gem is honored to host the Trans Poetic Archive‘s poetry workshop and Trans Poetics Showcase on Saturday, March 15th.
Lonny Saleeby (they/them) will facilitate the First Person Time Travel generative writing workshop that is designed to investigate the first recollections of learning about gender. When do you first recall knowing you had a gender? This workshop is for anyone who has ever embodied or disembodied a gender.
Lonny has spent their adult life on a trajectory of community care. They started in death work with expertise in memory care before moving towards the care of children, adolescents, animals, and plants. They spend their time stewarding their garden, loving their dog and friends, and seeing to the needs of a herd of twenty-two goats and a school of 50 preschoolers. They are a visual artist, a poet, and a healer.
Trans Poetics Archive originated as a graduate independent research project of USM Stonecoast MFA student, t love smith. The project has included the publication of Maine’s First Transgender Poetry Anthology and monthly Trans Poetics-curated events to amplify trans voices in Maine.
Following the workshop at 5: 00 pm will be a poetry showcase featuring many trans Mainer poets, including Calla Orion, Sampson Spadafore, Vincent Herrington, Lou Hoecker, and t love smith.
**Please note, you do not have to participate in the workshop to attend the showcase. All are invited to enjoy the showcase.**
