This film series celebrates the extraordinary career of Michelle Yeoh, whose groundbreaking performances have redefined action cinema, expanded representation for Asian actors on the global stage, and showcased her versatility across genres—from martial arts epics to award-winning dramas. Through her roles, Yeoh has inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences, cementing her legacy as one of the most influential figures in contemporary film.
The film series will be dedicated to the memory of Linda Gamble, whose volunteerism, intelligence, and patience were vital to The Gem’s early success—a beloved part of our community and (yes!) the only one among us with a degree in film studies.
Ken Eisen, the Gem’s film booker extraordinaire, will introduce Michelle Yeoh in a very brief video before each film in the series. Ken is one of the founders of Railroad Square Cinema in Waterville and is the founder and programming director of the Maine International Film Festival. He was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award this past July at MIFF. It is really Ken’s work that brings fabulous content to The Gem’s screens. You’ll finally be able to place a face with the name!
