Midnight weekend screenings happen on Friday & Saturday nights (meaning arrive on Friday and/or Saturday night by 11:45pm for seating, the movie starts after midnight)!

The 2026 Oscar-Nominated Shorts come to The Gem in three distinct feature-length programs showcasing all five nominees for each category: Animated, Documentary, and Live Action shorts. See this year’s picks in a single category or see all three!

The Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 15th, at 7pm. See the Oscar Shorts before the winners are announced! If you attend the Oscar Shorts at The Gem, you can fill out a ballot in each category and see who ends up winning on Award Night. This is our first time showing the Oscar Shorts and so we hope you will have fun by engaging in this weekend long event!

Butterfly

A poignant retelling of Olympic swimmer Alfred Nakache’s life, from his rise to fame to surviving Auschwitz, presented as memories flashing back during his final swim.

Retirement Plan
John Kelly | Ireland | 7 min
The film tells the story of Ray (Domhnall Gleeson) as he fantasises about everything he’d love to do in retirement, once he finally has the “time.”

Eiru (shortlisted)
Giovanna Ferrari | Ireland | 13 min
When the water mysteriously disappears from the well in a warrior clan’s village, an intrepid child descends into the belly of the earth to retrieve it.
